The manual refer to some earlier versions of APS. In the current version some of the
functions that were built-in left on the level of APLAN. To see what is implemented
at APLAN level see the files in the directory 1-system\1-aplan. The most important
are the files std.ap, gen_obj.ap (it contains the table for ac-operations and the
function compile), and strat.ap. The names of built-in functions and procedures can
be found in the files cantbl.tbl and proctbl.tbl.

The system APS for teaching has simplified structure. There is only one interpreter
that translates ap-module to a-module, executes it and abolishes it (results are in
the output).

There is a difference between the file std.ap described in the manual and used in
the system. Other differences can be also discovered if one compare the definitions
in the manual and original definitions in the system.

There are two application packages in the system: algebraic programming and insertion
modeling. Each package contains several applications. To launch concrete application
one has to launch bat file run_aps which contains all necessary references.

All applications in algebraic programming are demonstrations controlled by menu. One
must simply launch an application and follow menu proposals.

Important: Put the semicolon at the end of each input in interaction mode. And press
Enter when the system prints Ent.

Each insertion programming application contains the file input.ap. There are several
statements in this file written in Action Language (AL) -- the language for describing
agents to be inserted into environment. The Action Language is interpreted by an
interpreter Autosim in the file 1-system\3-simulator\autosim.ap. The syntax and
semantics of AL is represented by the rewriting system program.ap\unfold_rs.
To run AL program one must put it at the beginning of the file input.ap. Only one AL
program ending by semicolon will be inserted into environment and performed.
The insertion function is implemented by the rewriting system interact.ap\ins.
Each implementation uses its own functions unfold_rs and ins.

The procedure 1-system\3-simulator\search.ap\search is a prototype of all trace
generators of VRS. From AL this function is called by the statements find_dead_lock
and find_termination. To change the goal state one must define the property to be
searched by the system of rewriting rules.

The APS for unix is in the directory aps_unix. The difference is only in the main
procedure and C libraries, the launch command and the change of copy to cp in the
system statements used in some tasks.
